About Maggie Clapperton
MSW, RSW, psychotherapist
Thank goodness I became a therapist! In the early days of social work school and psychotherapy training, I realized I had been shutting off my emotions and needs for years! My history taught me that emotions were something I needed to shut down in order to be successful.
I started my career in community mental health supporting children and families. Here I gained a solid foundation in attachment theory and trauma informed care. From there I moved into working with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, isolation, and trauma. My public system roles have a major impact on how I show up in my private practice today.
I regularly engage in my own therapy. I have unlearned many old rules I’ve had for myself, and I’ve become far more compassionate towards all parts of me.
You will most likely find me escaping the world with a good book (fiction only), good music (I’m an emo kid at heart), good food, or some good friends.

Specialties & Modalities
-
Anxiety, Attachment Relationships, and Trauma
I specialize in connecting today’s anxiety, overwhelm, and low mood to your early experiences and relationships: what you went through, the messages you received, the rules you learned to live by, and what you were taught to expect of yourself and the world around you.
Together, we can rewrite these rules, unlearn unhelpful messages, and build the emotional flexibility to better manage anxiety, overwhelm, and low mood.
-
Navigating Difficult Relationships
I specialize in supporting you in navigating difficult relationships with parents, in-laws, siblings, and friends. Together we process underlying patterns which may be keeping you stuck.
-
Main Modality: Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT)
A structured, attachment-based psychotherapy that helps clients process deep emotions, transform restrictive emotional patterns, and build secure connections with themselves and others.
-
Secondary Modality: Dyadic Developmental Practice, Psychotherapy, and Parenting (DDP)
An attachment-focused family therapy that uses playfulness, acceptance, curiosity, and empathy to help children heal from developmental trauma and build secure relationships with their caregivers.
