About Maggie Clapperton Psychotherapy In Hamilton
Maggie is a Millennial, eldest daughter, and recovering people pleaser. She is passionate about supporting clients to step out of their heads and into their authentic selves.
Hi, I’m Maggie!
Prior to my career in social work and psychotherapy, I worked in content marketing for 5 years. I never felt deeply connected to this work. I knew something was missing.
I am 37 years old and live with my husband and dog. I deeply value my family, friends, and clients… relationships are everything.
I have spent the past couple of years engaging in my own therapy. I have unlearned many old rules I’ve had for myself, and I’ve become far more compassionate towards all parts of me.
You will most likely find me escaping the world with a good book (fiction only), good music (I’m an emo kid at heart), good food, or some good friends.

Phase 1 – Get to Know Each Other + Assessment
In this phase, my role is:
to get to know you and help you feel comfortable, validated, seen, and heard
to assess your history, your needs, and develop a tentative plan for our work together.
Your role here is to simply be open and honest, to assess if you feel like we are a good fit for each other, and to pin down your focus/goals for therapy.
Phase 2 – The Work
In this phase, we begin to actively work on the symptoms, patterns, and challenges that brought you into therapy. This is when I may mindfully push you into a zone of discomfort.
This phase will look different for everyone depending on what we decide to work on together. This may include new insights into your experiences and behaviours, new perspectives and skills, body based interventions, and/or visualizations. Our work may include “homework” for you to practice out in the world.
Phase 3 – Maintenance
Once you feel a shift in your mental wellness, we may see each other less frequently or you may choose to take a break from therapy. During this time, we focus on keeping up the gains you have acquired during our time together.
Alternatively, you may choose to focus on an area we have not tackled yet. If so, we cycle back into “the work” for another round.
